Every year the School produces a newly updated prospectus for potential new Hamptonians and their families to peruse. However, the task of refining all of the essential information about Hampton School into one concise document, can be challenging.

Sometimes, when tackling a large challenge such as this, it can be helpful to think outside of the box. It appears that in 2001, Hamptons English Teachers sought inspiration “out of the mouths of babes”. Pupils in the third year were tasked with writing a School Prospectus as homework.

One pupil’s work in particular, was so creative that it found its way into the Schools Archive. Writing with complete honesty, it is unsurprising that the largest proportion of the “prospectus” is dominated by matters relating to food, closely followed by an equally large proportion being dedicated to extracurricular sport.

Extracts from the prospectus include:

For your first couple of weeks at Hampton the lunch queue will appear to you as; a seething mass of greasy adolescents wildly pushing and shoving in order to be fed five seconds before the person in front of them. And to be honest, it is.”

“Most teachers will give detentions for late homework but some will except it a day or two late along with a sweet apology.”

While being a highly amusing read, we certainly cannot fault their honesty!
