As we celebrate the success of our A-Level Pupils who have received their exam results, it is appropriate to reflect on the lasting memories of our departing year groups.

It has become somewhat of a rite of passage for Sixth Form leavers to mark their departure with some action or gesture to both distinguish their presence within the School as well as symbolise their departure onto the next stage of their journeys.

Each year group prides itself in its uniqueness, from water guns outside at breaktime, attending School in costumes, to relocating the Schools stuffed Alligators to various locations around the School site. These memorable acts of harmless fun are arguably eclipsed by the creativity of the Upper Sixth leavers of 1988.

Their parting jape was to stick a large sign on the perimeter of the School property advertising to the public that the School was ‘For Sale’. It informed prospective buyers that they should contact Mr. Able (the Headmaster at the time) and dutifully supplied his telephone number. Taking the joke in good humor, Mr. Able reportedly stated should he have been in sole possession of the Schools “many acres, he could retire a millionaire”.

Thankfully the School site was not sold but instead continues to grow from strength to strength.

We congratulate all our leavers on their hard work and future successes, as well as wish the best of luck to our Pupils awaiting their imminent GCSE results.
