Aid in War & Disaster Zones

1:00pm – 1:45pm

The Hammond Theatre

We’re fortunate to be hearing from two global leaders in International Aid. Professor Ian Davis OH (1953) is one of the leading experts in the field of natural hazards, vulnerability and disasters. He has written numerous publications on disasters and is a Visiting Professor at universities in Lund, Kyoto, Oxford and Kerela and the Royal Melbourne Institue of Technology. Ian, an architect by background, played a pioneer role in establishing the Centre for Development & Emergency Practices (CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University with a ground-breaking academic programme in disaster studies and humanitarian aid.

Director of Humanitarian Assistance at the British Red Cross, David Peppiatt OH (1987) was recently awarded an OBE for his international humanitarian work over the past 27 years. At the heart of crisis situations, advising on humanitarian relief in natural disasters and war-torn countries, David has overseen aid provision across the globe including in Ukraine, Syria, Haiti, Bangladesh, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear from two OH specialists from the world of humanitarian aid and disasters. Listen to their experiences and get first-hand account of what it is like to be an aid worker on the front line and the challenges they face trying to ensure aid reaches civilians devastated by war or natural disasters.
