Hampton’s Music department has run an exciting programme of events and performances during the summer term, with musicians and choristers entertaining appreciative audiences at seven concerts across the term, as well as enjoying a number of music workshops. The term culminated with the Summer Concert, a wonderful celebration of the musical life of the School, which included over 130 musicians and choristers entertaining family and friends on the Hammond Theatre stage.

The evening featured a wonderful range of performances from our choirs and ensembles, ranging from ROAR! (our Lower School choir) who delighted the audience with an exuberant rendition of Let it Go from the film Frozen, to the Swing Band who performed the toe-tapping El Gato Gordo. The Brass Band gave a rousing rendition of Manhattan Skyline from Saturday Night Fever, while the Chamber Orchestra brought Benjamin Britten’s Playful Pizzicato to life with remarkable energy and verve.

Hampton’s exceptional male-voice choir, Voices of Lions, are busy rehearsing for their appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later in the summer, and entertained an appreciative Hammond Theatre audience with Can’t Help Falling in Love and Drunken Sailor, both of which sounded fantastic.

The concert also included two performances from our Upper Sixth musicians. French Horn player Sam Ho performed a movement from the Horn Concerto No. 1 in Eb Major by Richard Strauss with aplomb, while Milo Band sang a note-perfect recital of Der Doppelgänger by Franz Schubert, both accompanied by the 50-strong Symphony Orchestra. There was a fantastic end to the musical celebration, as the Symphony Orchestra performed a Tribute to the Film Composer arranged by legendary film score composer John Williams, with music from classic films such as Jaws, Psycho and The Godfather. A wonderful evening of music topping off a phenomenal year for Hampton’s musicians and choristers.
