This year’s Junior School Musical saw 45 young actors from Hampton and Waldegrave School bring the colourful story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat to life.
The energetic and vibrant musical reimagines the biblical story of Joseph, envied by his brothers for being his father’s favourite son. The production takes us on a wonderful adventure through a variety of musical genres including pop, a French ballad, calypso and an Elvis-impersonating Pharaoh singing rock and roll. Showcasing music by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joseph features showstopping classics such as Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door To Me.
Running for three nights, the musical was a feast for the eyes with superb acting by the young cast, accompanied by a band of musicians who performed the toe-tapping songs with aplomb. Behind the scenes, Hamptonians from across the year groups supported the production with expertise in stage management, lighting design and superb sound operation.
Director of Drama, Mrs Alice Jones, praised the cast, crew and musicians on their fantastic performances:
I am so proud of everyone involved in this year’s Junior Musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. All the pupils have been a joy to work with and it has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside such committed staff, who have helped make this wonderful production possible.
Musical Director, Mrs Lizzie Esser, congratulated everyone involved in this year’s musical:
Putting this production together has been an absolute pleasure. We have been lucky enough to work with an exceptionally talented cast of pupils, and Mrs Jones and I are so proud of the end result. A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved, including our splendid band of musicians!
