Dear Hamptonian – Your Archivist needs you!

Whilst cataloguing the School’s collection of awards, plates and trophies, the School’s Archivist has come across a rather unusual (and beautiful) glass ornament.

The three-dimensional image within the glass depicts a bust sculpture of a woman (most likely Marianne – the national personification of the French Republic since the French Revolution) and at the base is titled “Mairie De Surgères” (translates to Town Hall of Surgères).

Unfortunately, this unique object (or perhaps prize – given its location amongst other awards, plates and trophies) has no context or provenance attached.

We therefore need your help to fill in the gaps…

Do you recognise this curio?

Do you remember attending a School trip to Surgères?
