Hampton’s athletes started the season with a series of superb performances at the prestigious Achilles Schools’ Relays. The relays are held at the Iffley Road Sports Centre in Oxford, the track where Sir Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile.

The Achilles Schools’ Relays began in 1963 and is a unique event where all of the track races are in a relay format. 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the competition. This year saw 22 schools competing, attracting some of the best schoolboy talent from across the country. The Hampton team was made up of 35 athletes competing at the U15, U17 and Senior level. It was an impressive performance, especially from our Senior teams, with equally encouraging results from our Juniors and Intermediates.

Hampton’s Senior athletes had an outstanding day of racing, achieving their best ever results in the competition’s 60-year history. The Senior team of Finlay W, Theo T-L, James Queen and Zain S won the 4x100m race in a new School record and were awarded The Harold Abraham Trophy, while the Senior 4x400m team of Kieran B-R, Sam B, Harry A and Aaron M also won their event and received The Jack Lovelock Trophy, also with a new School record.
