Hampton’s U17 cricketers have been crowned national champions after an exciting final against Rugby School at Edgbaston.
Hampton batted first with a brilliant opening partnership display from James S (55 runs) and Oliver K (38 runs) in the first wicket of 14 overs. Ashton C achieved 65 runs off 42 balls; Rohan M, 26 off 20 balls; and James E 27 (no) off 8 balls which took Hampton to 241 runs for 6 wickets in 35 overs.
A wicket for Hampton from the first ball and some disciplined bowling restricted Rugby to 149/7 in 24 overs, but then some late power hitting from their lower order batsmen took them to two runs to win. Man of the Match Rohan delivered a clever last ball which meant Rugby concluded on 241 runs for 8 wickets in 35 overs. With the match tied on runs, Hampton claimed victory on wickets lost.
The U17s now join the U13As in claiming a 2025 ECB national cricketing title. Director of Cricket, Mr Ami Banerjee, warmly praised the U17 players:
Back to all newsThis has been a great, ongoing team effort where everyone in the squad has played their part, ensuring successes along the way against some of the UK’s top cricketing schools.
