Hampton’s talented musicians and choristers brought the festive spirit to life with three spectacular Christmas Concerts, marking a joyful conclusion to a vibrant term of musical events.

Across the two evenings, more than 330 pupils from year groups across the School showcased their skills in a dazzling array of ensembles and choirs. Christmas Concert I opened with the Hampton School First Year Choir performing seasonal favourites The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and Mary’s Boy Child, accompanied by the Hampton School Christmas Band. The programme continued with lively performances from Hampton Strings, Junior Jazz, and ROAR!, whose rendition of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was a real crowd-pleaser. Hampton Sinfonia impressed with Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and music from the Christmas classic Home Alone, while the Swing Band closed the concert with upbeat numbers including You Better Sleigh!

Christmas Concert II featured another strong showing from the First Year Choir, before the Symphony Orchestra took centre stage under the baton of Mr Roland and Mr Ferrier. Highlights included a note-perfect performance Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major by Upper Sixth musician Leo, and Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 played with aplomb by soloist Jian. The orchestra also delighted audiences with a suite of magical dances from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, including Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Flowers.

Christmas Concert III began with Voices of Lions delivering festive cheer through Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. The Brass Band brought energy with Florentiner March and Blame It on the Boogie, while the Chamber Choir and Consort of Voices offered moments of serenity with Bruckner’s Locus Iste and a playful Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The Chamber Orchestra enchanted with Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and a seasonal favourite White Christmas. After a convivial interval of mince pies and festive drinks, the Symphony Orchestra returned for a triumphant finale, reprising the virtuosic concertos and Nutcracker Suite selections.

Three wonderful Christmas Concerts topping off a phenomenal term for Hampton’s musicians and choristers.
